All the news Here we are nearly at the end of term and the first three months of the year have flown by already. We hope you enjoy reading this newsletter as we bring you up to date with what’s happening with the PSA events and fundraising. Although we are barely seeing the first shoots of Spring, the Summer Fete planning committee are already meeting to arrange our big event of the year. So if you are planning that Spring clean over Easter please remember to put aside books, unwanted gifts and toys for us as we will be asking for donations in the run up to June. This year we’d like to include some new attractions at the fete so we’d love to hear from you if you have any ideas. The crockery smash was new last year and was extremely popular, with people queuing up to obliterate that giant gnome! What have you done in previous schools that we could copy and add to the fun of the day? In particular we are looking for activities for people to enjoy like the coconut
shy, crockery smash or games ideas. So please get in touch with suggestions. (see page 3) We will also be looking for helpers to run stalls or help with set up or sorting donations. We are struggling to get enough people involved so if you could spare a few hours during that weekend then please fill out the form at the back of this newsletter. This year has already seen two popular events; Burns night which raised over £1370 and the Quiz (see below). Thank you for your support if you attended. We have already used some of the funds on a new marquee and a PA system for use at school events is on the way. Look out for news in the coming term about our Summer Disco which will be another great night out to enjoy in the school calendar. We hope you all have a wonderful Easter break and look forward to seeing you at one of the events this summer term.
Quiztastic evening had by all! It may have been a chilly night out but the PSA Quiz certainly got people sweating over the ten challenging rounds of tough questions last month. It was an excellent, entertaining evening led by our two quiz masters, Paddy Storrie and Sean Parr who took turns in posing questions that all had a tenuous connection to Christmas, in some cases very tenuous! It was a sell out event with the school hall packed with
36 teams of 6 - 8 people including parents, teachers and friends. The bar was kept busy throughout and when the delicious fish and chips arrived at 9pm everyone was ready for their dinner and a short break. This was the first year we have attempted hot food and it was a resounding success with over 290 portions of fish & chips served in very quick succession. A huge thank you to Helen Wright and her merry band of helpers who organised, set up, ran and tidied the whole thing. And of course Paddy for his fantastic question setting. The good news for the school is the event raised a fabulous £2973 for new projects and equipment, so thank you to all quiz teams who took part.
A packed hall for the quiz night
Pre Loved Uniform Our next sale of pre loved (second hand) uniform will take place on the 28th March at 9am in the school hall. If you have any uniform that you’d like to donate please drop it off at Goddard reception at anytime. Don’t forget that includes sports kit, aprons, baskets, trainers and bags as well as shirts, skirts, trousers and blazers. Thank you!
You don’t have to be Picasso! We have in the past highlighted the excellent work of those who get involved with the painting weekends at school. For many years this has been run by Adrian Clarke who recently stepped down and we are looking for someone to pick up his paintbrush and continue the good work. There are no more than 2 or 3 painting weekends a year and materials are provided by the site team. What we need is someone who would be happy to liaise with the site team to decide which areas need
painting and then organise the helpers to come and take part. By refreshing corridors and classrooms this way we save the school money that can then be spent on other important resources for our children. Are you able to give up a few hours of your time to help run these weekends for the PSA? There would be a full handover so don’t worry you aren’t expected to figure it out by yourself and we always have a very good turnout of helpers on the day. Perhaps it is something you and another parent might consider doing
together and share the role? Either way we would love to hear from you as we really need to find someone to take this on. If you are interested and would like to know more about what is involved then please get in touch with the PSA via [email protected] Painting weekends are good fun, you get to meet a lot of new people and of course, we save money for the school. Thank you.
Making our Marqu(ee) We all like to keep an eye on how the Jones’s next door are getting on, don’t we? Ever had a small pang of envy when their lawn looks better than yours or that shiny new car arrives? Well schools are no different and now we have made sure that St George’s teams can hold their heads high when they show up at matches with their very own branded marquee. No more huddling under umbrellas or a plastic sheet for our valiant sportsmen and women while the posh schools shelter in luxury. The PSA has
provided this lovely new marquee which will be a portable base for our children when playing in tournaments. It does mean that they now have a dry spot to shelter in and keep their things safe during events, which is a real practical benefit especially when they are away all day representing the school. And by the looks of our picture here it may even help our results!

St George’s PSA
Frequent readers of the PSA Newsletter may have noticed the “Give as you Live” notice on the front page of each edition. This is another way that the PSA raises money for the school and it doesn’t cost you a penny. How does that work I hear you cry! Well read on! It’s simple and includes many well known high street and online retailers so you don’t have to change where you shop. Your shopping won’t cost any more either but the retailers donate a percentage of everything
you spend to us. Here's what happens next...
So far we have earned an extra £561 through Give as you Live and that’s with only 34 people using it. Just think what it could be worth if a few more of you signed up today?
1. Visit the website and click "Get started". 2. Fill in a quick few details. Don’t worry your information is safe. 3. Install ‘Give as you Live’. This is 100% secure and takes seconds.
Click here to help St George’s School or go to www.giveasyoulive.com
Then every time you shop online the Give as you Live tool bar appears at the top of websites that participate and you simply turn it on before you make your purchase.
Come and join the fun The St George’s School PSA summer fete is a great day out with lots to do, see and enjoy. Last year it made over £9,000 and is a really big fundraising activity for us. It only takes place because of the hard work and dedication of a small number of people and this year we really need some additional hands on deck to make it happen. Listed below are a number of areas we desperately need your help with. If you can spare a few hours to be a part of this wonderful event then please complete the form below and hand it in at the school’s reception or email us your details letting us know what role you can help with. Also we’d welcome your suggestions for new activities we could run with your help to make the day even more enjoyable. Many thanks.
